OUR ACADEMIC PRACTICES
Dr. Suat Günsel Girne College is a secondary education institution that provides education in line with the programs and curricula of the Ministry of National Education of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The school grants diplomas approved by the Ministry of Education upon graduation.
Students are admitted to the school through an entrance exam, which assesses their levels and offers scholarships to those who achieve high success throughout their education.
In the middle school section of Dr. Suat Günsel Girne College, all subjects, except for cultural studies, are taught in English. While students learn fundamental concepts with a strong foundation, they are also advanced in both practical and grammatical aspects of the English language through extensive English classes. The college implements the Pearson Edexcel curriculum for Science and Mathematics in grades 6, 7, and 8, and the Cambridge International curriculum for Computer Science. At the end of the 8th grade, students take an external exam administered from the UK, which evaluates their development and helps guide them in their high school education.
Additionally, Social Studies classes enhance students’ interest in History and Geography. Each student is provided the opportunity to choose a second foreign language, either German or French, alongside English as a mandatory subject. Within the framework of full-day education, supplementary courses are organized to support subject lessons under the guidance of teachers.
At the end of the year, 8th-grade students can make selections regarding their future programs by having one-on-one meetings with subject experts and guidance services, aligned with their goals. In the GCE section, students are allowed to choose a total of 5 courses from various alternatives suited to their interests at the 9th and 10th grade levels, while also taking mandatory courses in Mathematics, English, Turkish, and Physical Education.
In GCE 9th and 10th grades, students follow the IGCSE curriculum from exam platforms such as Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International, taking relevant subject exams at the end of the 10th grade. Students who achieve a certain level of success in these exams follow programs suitable for the Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge International GCE A-level exams to obtain certifications for university applications in the 11th and 12th grades.
In addition to the GCE programs that allow students to apply to many universities worldwide, they can also take American standardized tests like TOEFL and SAT, enabling them to apply to universities in the United States and Turkey.
Dr. Suat Günsel Girne College has succeeded in becoming the school with the widest range of programs in the TRNC, offering education in both the native language and English as permitted by the Ministry of Education. Graduates have the opportunity to continue their studies in many European countries, especially in the UK and Turkey, while many of our students also continue their education at universities in Cyprus.
One of the school’s significant advantages is that it is established within the framework of Near East University, the largest and most equipped university in the TRNC. Graduates from Dr. Suat Günsel Girne College have special quotas and scholarships for many programs at Near East University. Another important privilege provided by the school is that our high-achieving students have priority registration rights for limited-capacity programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
