Great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was respectfully remembered on the 86th anniversary of his passing. Near East Primary School, Near East Yeniboğaziçi Primary School and Dr. Suat Günsel Kyrenia Primary School students and parents came together for the “Respect for Atatürk Road Run” to commemorate Atatürk after the events organized throughout the week. The run which took place on the Near East University Campus was held with intense participation.

The participants gathered in front of the İKAS Supermarket on the Near East University Campus to pay their respects to Atatürk and started preparations for the race after completing the registration procedures. The races held at special distances for each age group started at 10:30. Little athletes born in 2018 and 2017 ran 400 meters, while students born in 2016 and 2015 ran 800 meters. Parents who were in the general classification competed on the 1500-meter track. All runs were evaluated separately in female and male categories.

Students and parents show respect to Atatürk

At the end of the day, all participants were given a commemorative medal, and trophies were presented to the top three students and parents in each category. The award ceremony was held with enthusiastic applause. The children and their families, who had fun with DJ performances throughout the organization, experienced the happiness of both commemorating Atatürk and sharing the unifying spirit of sports.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemre S. Günsel Haskasap, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises, who also participated in the race as a parent, said in a statement, “It is very important for us that our students and families come together on this meaningful day to express their love, respect and loyalty to Atatürk. Thanks to this event, our children see sports as a part of their lives and learn the spiritual value of commemorating Atatürk.”

Trophies were presented to students and parents who won

In the races sponsored by Near East Bank, Danyil Holubkov and Tansel Eminoğlu shared first place in the 2018-born male 400-meter category. Kenan Akpolat ranked second, while Deniz Özay Arhun ranked third. In the girls category of the same age group, Leyla Günsel Haskasap and Cemre Günsel Haskasap shared first place, while Tezel Sarıoğlu ranked second and Balım Özcem ranked third.

In the 2017-born male 400-meter category, where primary school second-grade students competed, Erdal Aslantürk ranked first, Ardıç Hürsoylu ranked second and Bulut Toptancı ranked third. In the 2017-born female category, Su Hidayet ranked first, Mia Ulu ranked second and Elisa Havin Taş ranked third.

In the 2016-born male 800-meter category, Deran Yalnız ranked first, Rüzgar Akın ranked second, and Mehmet Ordu ranked third. In the 2016-born girls’ category, Ayşe Aksu ranked first, Dayana Kydyrova ranked second, and Nil Mammadov ranked third.

In the 2015-born men’s 800-meter category, Doran Veysioğlu ranked first, Poyraz Ahmet Kurt ranked second, and Erkan Eminoğlu ranked third. In the 2015-born female category, Güneş Gök ranked first, Elvin Çatozlular ranked second, and Özay Günsel Haskasap ranked third.

In the 2013-2014-born men’s 800-meter category, Yusuf Hüseyin Nurçin ranked first, Çınar Tüzünkan ranked second, and Okyanus Tunççağ ranked third. In the girls’ category of the same age group, Azade Osmanoğlu ranked first, Mira Conkbayır ranked second, and Yağmur Su Mirka ranked third.

In the general classification men’s 1500 meter category where the parents competed, Oleg Li ranked first, Ali Kayral ranked second and Selçuk Yalovalı ranked third. In the general classification female 1500 meter category, Gönül Özkan ranked first, Ezgi Ulu ranked second and Cemre Günsel Haskasap ranked third.
